Søren Søeborg Ohlsen represents the Danish Association of Cultural Centres (Kulturhusene I Danmark - KHiD) within the board of ENCC and has been doing so since 2007. KHiD gathers 100 cultural centres, including both large centres subsidised by cities and small centres in rural areas led by volunteers. The cultural centres are seen as the necessary physical frame around cultural processes primarily based on local initiatives. Although the centres differ a lot when it comes to size and facilities, they all share the fundamental purpose of organising and presenting cultural events, as well as facilitating local cultural initiatives by providing know-how, space and technical equipment. Since cultural centres in Denmark are strongly locally rooted, he finds it equally important to create lasting and vivid connections to cultural centres throughout Europe on both organisational and personal levels, and between professionals and volunteers. He believes that organising cultural centres at both national and European levels is an important tool to develop and support each centre's activities, as well as to develop true respect and understanding of the qualities of cultural diversity.
