A Vértes Agorája – as a division of Agora Sport és Szabadido Közhasznú Nonprofit Kft. (Sport and Leisure Agora - public and nonprofit organisation) – is a local center for culture and education aiming to develop and organize the cultural life of the local community in Tatabánya, respecting and preserving traditions and promoting innovation.
Our institution provides the opportunity and venue for programs that support valuable free time activities for all age groups. It plays an essential role in organizing representative events such as concerts, exhibitions, workshops, talent spotting events, career fairs and local history lectures presentations. It also provides complex institutional support (sports facilities, etc.). The key features of the programs are complexity and creativity with a strong respect for the local identity, values and characteristics of the city of Tatabánya.
In order to acquire democratic values as well as affirm them beyond our traditions it is crucial to get acquainted with alternative values, mentalities, etc. For this reason, we need programs that give the opportunity to head for intercultural connections.
Youth as a highlighted target group is supported by offices such as Agora Start Tehetségpont for talent management and Ifjúsági és Start Iroda for vocational and lifestyle orientation. The main objective of the Agora Start Tehetségpont is to support local youth mobility, familiarize them with volunteering by promoting volunteer service programs and helping them to develop social responsibility. It gives them a chance to get acquainted with foreign cultures. Thus, they can develop the most important virtues indispensable for living in a European dimension: tolerance, empathy and creativity.
The city of Tatabánya is a multicultural settlement, where the coexistence of minorities has always been undisturbed. Our institution aims to support local nationalities (i.e. Swabians, Slovakians) and minorities to liven up their cultural life and strengthen their identity. By creating intercultural connections providing new impulses, one of our main motivations is to reserve and develop good relationship between the majority of the local society and minority groups. This approach considers residents’ values and gives a particular attention to younger generations.
About the history of the institution:
Although our institution went through a vast scale of renewal, its predecessor entitled A Közművelődés Háza (Community Centre) was established in 1985. It always played an important role in the cultural life of the region. Its nationwide reputation and the long lasting cross-border relations result from its modern mentality and its high level of professionalism.
