The ENCC cannot accept police raids in cultural spaces that have been funded by the authorities to be safe havens for artistic activities by migrants.
On 9/02/2018, Globe Aroma arts centre, in Brussels, was raided by the police, who arrested several persons without documents. Globe Aroma defines itself as an open arts centre, accessible to everyone, in particular newly arrived migrants who want to practice an artistic activity, as well as migrants who are professional artists.
The ENCC stands behind this open letter from six major operators from the Brussels arts sector, asking police and political authorities for explanations and pointing out the paradox of funding with one hand and cracking down with the other.
