What has changed over the course of a year in our advocacy for non-urban culture? Join our webinar to look at the present and towards the future outside of big cities.

With Ines Bettencourt da Camara, Beate Kegler, Leandro Pisano. The conversation will be moderated by Piotr Michalowski.

In March 2020, we launched our Crowd-Sourced Manifesto for Shared, Smart, Innovative Territories, together with the Beyond the urban policy paper, jointly created with sister networks Culture Action Europe, IETM and Trans Europe Halles. The launch happened a few days into the crisis which upended our lives and our sector. One year later, we come back to reflect on which narratives and recommendations are still alive and relevant, which are not, and what we would like to change in order to become more resilient and sustainable. The Covid-19 pandemic had an impact on our personal agendas, made us rethink, and even made some of us leave cities and move towards rural areas. We'll talk about all of those aspects and about future tendencies with our three guests.

Ines Bettencourt da Camara created Mapa das Ideias with Ana and Daniela in 1999. The company thrives on a holistic and transdisciplinary approach to the fields of Culture, Heritage and Citizenship, focusing on Museums, their visitors and users. Since 2010, they have been leading and collaborating in projects funded by Creative Europe, Erasmus Plus and Horizon 2020. Besides her intense activity in Mapa, Inês is also a Board Member of Culture Action Europe and the head of the 'A Reserva' that focuses on global citizenship, research and community development based upon the arts and heritage. Ines worked as an assistant professor for 18 years and has a never-ending PHD research focused on Museums and social relevance.

Beate Kegler, PhD is a cultural scientist, freelance researcher and scientific author. Her main topic is the research on cultural practice and cultural policy for rural and remote areas. With her agency KULTURKONZEPTE she consults political deciders and associations of participative cultural work in or for rural development. Previously, she spent about 20 years on sociocultural work in rural areas, including working as research associate and substitute professor at the University of Hildesheim until 2020. She has worked on many publications like the European anthology Vital Village. With her family she lives in a not really idyllic small village on the German North Sea Coast. .

Leandro Pisano is a curator, writer and independent researcher who is interested in intersections between art, sound and technoculture. The specific area of his research deals with political ecology of rural, marginal and remote territories. He is the founder and director of the Interferenze new arts festival (2003) and frequently he is involved in projects on electronic and sound art, conducts presentations, conferences and workshops in different universities or during events related with new media aesthetics, design, sound and territorial regeneration processes in several countries worldwide. He has written articles in several magazines and authored “Nuove geografie del suono. Spazi e territori nell’epoca postdigitale” (2017, Meltemi). Leandro is affiliate member of The Sound Art and Auditory Culture lab (SAAC) of the RMIT - Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology’s School of Art and is external member of the soundscape research group Paesaggi Sonori at DFA/University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland. Piotr Michalowski is the secretary and Board Member of the European Network of Cultural Centres, where he coordinates the working group on cultural centres and non-urban areas. He is an expert in territorial development and networking, a researcher in the fields of culture and international cooperation, an experienced field worker in urban and rural communities, a consultant for national and EU-level cultural policies, as well as a professional jazz musician and producer. He also coordinates the Cultural Division of the City of Wrocław (ECoC 2016).
