174 Trust /The Duncairn
174 Trust is a community development and peacebuilding organisation based in Inner City North Belfast. Since its establishment in September 1983, it has been dedicated to fostering cross-community and cross-cultural relationships, earning widespread respect across Ireland and beyond. Its CEO, Rev. Bill Shaw, is a highly regarded peace ambassador, having played an advisory role in initiatives across Europe and the USA.
In 2014, after 15 years of planning, 174 Trust achieved a major milestone with the opening of The Duncairn Centre for Culture and Arts—North Belfast’s first and only purpose-built arts and cultural facility. The Duncairn has since gained recognition as a leading organisation in Ireland, celebrated for breaking down barriers to cultural participation for marginalised and disadvantaged communities while supporting and nurturing emerging artists.
Further expanding its impact, 174 Trust has also embraced environmental sustainability. In 2021, it collaborated with the ENCC on its pioneering initiative in the circular economy, the Duncairn Centre for Environment – Wildflower Weekend, demonstrating its commitment to both cultural and ecological progress.
