The lack of knowledge on environmental sustainability among cultural operators can lead to negative impacts of cultural activities on the environment, higher costs, and energy and resource waste. On the other hand, socio-cultural centres hold the potential to play a crucial role in fostering just transitions in our communities, and through accurate planning can greatly improve their positive impacts, reduce waste and related costs, and increase their ability to access public and private funds. At the Sustainability at the Centre training programme, between 2024 and 2025, a group of socio-cultural workers from across Europe learned how to assess their organisation's footprint, and began transforming their operations through action plans tailored to their needs and contexts.
