A guide designed to support the mobility of cultural operators and guide their learning experience

This toolkit was originally designed to be used by fellows of our Bridge between European Cultural Centres (BECC) staff exchange and training programme, now called LightsOn.It can be used as a companion to that programme, a self-learning resource for cultural operators who want to build soft skills and/or prepare a professional mobility, or as a resource for trainers and educators working with adults in the cultural sector.

Everyday, we witness dynamic changes around us stimulated by social, environmental and economic challenges. We are experiencing now, perhaps more than ever, the influence of global factors on the local context; inversely, we can observe new forms of society emerging from our communities and nurturing the local vs. global relationship.

Cultural organisations such as cultural centres, museums, libraries and heritage sites play a crucial role in these dynamics that ultimately affect in people’s lives. In this vibrant ecosystem, leadership and management skills have never been more important.

That is why we, cultural managers, must work together to identify the essential skills that will allow us to best respond to current and prospective new dynamics, and then design innovative ways to acquire these skills and improve learning processes. We also believe that this collective effort is more effective at a transnational level, as innovative solutions can arise from exchanges between professionals evolving in different cultural environments. Once you decide to go abroad for your cultural mobility, this toolkit will guide you in planning your project and achieving a successful professional story.
