In Context Slănic Moldova Art Association

Slănic, Romania

In the uniquely scenic natural setting of the Carpathian peaks lies one of the most beautiful towns in the Romanian lands: Slănic Moldova. The "In Context" project aims to use the unique area of Slănic to create and multiply opportunities for the local artistic community, population and businesses, to foster economic development in the area and counter the current de-population trend in the region. Through the establishment of a contemporary art and experimental music festival and an artist residency programme, the project seeks to celebrate and protect our fragile but beautiful nature and cultural heritage. We aim at promoting the beauty of the area by highlighting and conceptualising its unique physicality. By engaging the local population through workshops and understanding their needs and wishes for the future, the project also sets itself as a hub for new cross-sectorial entrepreneurial opportunities and collaborations, at the benefit of the local community. Strong connections with foreign guests open up an intercultural dialogue and facilitate the exchange of visions and experiences.

In Context Slănic Moldova wishes to become a centre for contemporary art, ecology and human development, a trans-disciplinary learning lab promoting arts and sciences as complementary ways of exploring the world. The resort becomes a living museum, a space dedicated to presentations, debates, film screenings, group readings and specialised workshops aimed at informing the public about the ecological breakdown and its immediate and future consequences, and at inspiring a collective search for fresh solutions and ideas to counter the crisis.

Creating experiences based on investigation, research, interaction and cooperation designed to encourage people to think for themselves, to understand the complexity of the global world, and to act in solidarity with the nature and future generations. Creating a culture of experimentation and collaboration that inspires lifelong learning, critical thinking, curiosity, community, inclusiveness, and sustainability.
