Communitism
Communitism is a cultural organisation based in Athens, Greece, activating abandoned heritage buildings as community-managed cultural spaces. It brings together artists, researchers, and local actors to prototype participatory models for reclaiming the urban commons. Its work spans community art, cultural heritage reuse, social innovation, and cooperative governance. Driven by values of inclusivity, sustainability, and solidarity, Communitism supports collective creativity, intercommunity solidarity and self-organisation as tools for systemic change and cultural democracy. Through open workshops, curated assemblies, mentorship, and co-managed in-house projects, we foster long-term involvement, horizontal collaboration, and skills development. This enables participants to build confidence, take initiative, and collectively imagine alternative ways of living and working, anchoring cultural participation in the everyday practices of urban commoning and solidarity.
