Vienna’s Circular Revolution: A Bottom-Up Blueprint
Founded in 2020, The Learning Street is a volunteer-led initiative dedicated to transforming Vienna into a regenerative, circular city from the grassroots up. We believe that urban resilience starts at the neighborhood level (Grätzl), moving away from passive consumption toward a "15-minute city" model where resources are shared, repaired, and recirculated locally.
We drive this transformation through two primary initiatives:
Kreislaufplatz.wien: This digital "nervous system" serves as a central hub for mutual aid. It maps and connects Vienna’s "Circularity Heroes"—the local tailors, repair shops, and tool libraries that form the backbone of a circular economy. By organizing Repair Cafés, food-sharing networks, and "Buy Nothing" groups, we turn neighborhoods into living ecosystems of resourcefulness.
Circularvienna.com: This platform outlines our strategic vision for the 15-Minute Circular City. It advocates for local economic autonomy, ensuring that capital stays within the community to support regenerative growth. By showcasing physical solutions and community-driven initiatives, we keep local storefronts active and prove that the future of urban living is bottom-up and neighborhood-rooted.
We are based in Simmering (ZVR: 1430739285) and provide the map and the method for active citizens to design their own sustainable environments.
