Medeber Teatro asbl
Medeber Teatro is a multidisciplinary project focused on artistic research and creation. While rooted in theatre, we explore various artistic languages, using poetry to create spaces for dialogue and shared authorship with audiences, both on stage and in public spaces. Our participatory practices, devices, and workshops aim to make artistic language an opportunity for political agency for all audiences. Founded by Serenella Martufi and Francesco Moarca, Medeber Teatro moved to Brussels in 2017, quickly becoming active in the local socio-cultural scene through our unique approach to cultural mediation, starting with our multilingual performance de bouche à oreille . Since 2021 we are involved in European projects around the subject of migration, language learning and community theatre practices. These are: EX.TRE.M ; Crossroads ; Literacy Act . Currently we are developing the interdisciplinary participatory project Les Voix Errantes, which is part of a larger pluriannual practice-based research called URBE - Urbanisme Emotionnel, where we investigate the relationship between the sensorial experience of the individual and urban space. Since 2018 we run the weekly multilingual workshop Poiesis: Theatre, Poetry and Movement. The name Medeber comes from a caravanserai in the city of Asmara in Eritrea, where every day, waste is transformed and repurposed, thanks to the work and collective creation of the market community. This image of bodies at work transforming matter corresponds to our idea of theatre where bodies collectively transform matter and images through a collaborative process of creation, poiesis, and poetry.
