Medeber Teatro asbl
Medeber Teatro is a multidisciplinary project focused on artistic research and creation, founded by Serenella Martufi and Francesco Moarca and relocated to Brussels in 2017. While rooted in theatre, it explores various artistic languages, using poetry to create spaces for dialogue and shared authorship with all audiences, both on stage and in public spaces.
The name Medeber originates from a caravanserai in Asmara, Eritrea, where waste is transformed and repurposed daily through the work and collective creativity of the market community. Medeber Teatro sees the theatre as a space where bodies collectively transform material and images through a collaborative process of creation, poiesis, and poetry.
Its local socio-cultural activities began with the multilingual performance de bouche à oreille. Since 2018, it has been running the weekly multilingual workshop Poiesis: Theatre, Poetry and Movement. Since 2021, the association has been involved in European initiatives focused on migration, language learning, and community theatre practices, including EX.TRE.M, Crossroads, and Literacy Act. Currently, Medeber Teatro is developing the interdisciplinary participatory project Les Voix Errantes, which forms part of a larger, multi-annual practice-based research project titled URBE – Urbanisme Émotionnel, investigating the relationship between individual sensory experiences and urban space.
