A la jeunesse les micros

“A la jeunesse les micros” engages 10 young people with few opportunities in a project of media
education and participation in democratic life. Together, they will take part in the creation of an ephemeral radio station at the heart of the Avignon Festival. The project is being implemented by Making Waves (France) who is encouraging transmission, expression and creation through
radio and podcasting.
“A la jeunesse les micros” mobilizes radio as a tool for inclusion, media education, raising awareness of fundamental rights, and as a support for engagement in civil life.
The “À la jeunesse les micros” (Microphones for Youth) project is implemented in response to the needs expressed by disadvantaged young people in France, with the aim of empowering them and helping them to express themselves by using radio as a tool for civic participation, media literacy, and democratic engagement.
Today, many young people face uncertainty about their future due to technological change, social developments, misinformation, discrimination, and forms of social and democratic exclusion. These difficulties particularly affect young people living in priority neighborhoods or rural areas far from cultural infrastructure. The project was based on the observation that young people in both countries share similar socio-demographic characteristics and common needs.
The project’s goals are:
- Engaging young people with few opportunities in democratic life and dialogue
- Using radio to give a voice to young people who are underrepresented in the media or public sphere
- Providing a space where young people feel heard (200,000 listeners) and can express themselves on social issues that impact their generation
- Enabling young people to engage in civic life
