ALTER EUROPA – Telling Today’s Democracy
ALTER EGO (X)
France
ALTER EUROPA is a participatory media project exploring how European citizens live and narrate democracy today. Through sound collection in Paris, Berlin and Athens, stories and audio portraits document everyday democratic practices and local engagement. These materials feed a live European radio broadcast in Paris and a bilingual podcast circulated through cultural and civic networks, fostering dialogue between different European realities.
ALTER EUROPA is a participatory media project documenting how democracy is experienced in everyday life across Europe. It is based on the collection of stories, sounds and audio portraits in Paris, Berlin and Athens, focusing on local realities, civic engagement and democratic practices.
In each city, ALTER EGO (X) conducts field research through interviews, listening sessions and sound storytelling workshops with young citizens and artists, supported by local partners Refuge Worldwide in Berlin and Culture for Change in Athens.
The collected materials are transformed into a live European radio show recorded in Paris at the Gaîté Lyrique, bringing together voices from all three cities in dialogue with the public. The programme is then adapted into a bilingual FR/EN podcast and disseminated through European cultural, educational and civic networks in cooperation with Reset! Network.
The project strengthens citizen participation through artistic media and promotes transnational dialogue on lived democracy.
