In 2026, our district celebrates its 140th anniversary. Our project marks this milestone through two major events. First, the "Bogrács" Festival, an outdoor autumn gathering featuring traditional cauldron-cooking and a participatory art contest to activate our local park. Second, a formal Anniversary Gala in November to crown the year, award contest winners, and inaugurate new Honorary Citizens. The project is relevant as it uses local heritage to bridge generational gaps, revitalize public spaces, and foster active democratic engagement in our historic Budapest community.
The "Bogrács Festival & Anniversary Gala" is a two-phase community-building initiative celebrating our district's 140th anniversary (1886-2026). Phase 1: The Bogrács Festival (September). This grassroots outdoor event in the currently unnamed 'Bláthy-park' focuses on social inclusion. It features a traditional cauldron-cooking competition and the launch of a participatory art contest for all ages. We aim to reclaim this public space for cultural use and foster neighborhood bonds through shared meals. Phase 2: The Anniversary Gala (November). This formal indoor finale serves as the prestigious closing of the jubilee year. The evening includes a three-course dinner, performances by local artists, and the award ceremony for the art contest. A key democratic element is the inauguration of new Honorary Citizens, recognizing outstanding civic contributions. By combining a popular folk tradition with a formal ceremony, we bridge generational gaps and turn a historical milestone into a modern tool for active democratic engagement and neighborhood pride.
