"Build the Resistance" scales an Erasmus+ youth exchange into a public civic intervention. We empower youths and locals to counter far-right polarization through creative activism. The Up Grant provides the crucial additionality to fund a collaborative street art mural and a pop-up exhibition. This project is highly relevant because it brings democratic education into the streets, transforming non-formal learning into tangible cultural resistance that builds community cohesion.
"Build the Resistance" aims to act as a laboratory of civic participation and a space of cultural resistance against the rise of far-right narratives and democratic erosion. This initiative is a local 'scale-up' of our upcoming Erasmus+ Youth Exchange (which will bring 30 international youths to Sintra to learn about anti-fascist history and create democratic counterpropaganda). With the Up Grant, we want to bring the results of this closed setting out into the streets, reaching a wider community. Our objectives are to:
- Reclaim the public space for civic expression by creating a collaborative Street Art Mural in Sintra;
- The Resistance Pop-up Exhibition: Funding will support a multi-media public exhibition in Sintra, showcasing the creative 'propaganda' tools developed by the youth to a broader audience of local residents, educators, and activists, fostering alliances between international youth, local citizens, and local artists.
