Up Grants Edited 2
This project explores how participatory practices can support intercultural dialogue in contexts of social and political tension. Existing dialogue and facilitation methods will be tested in intercultural settings bringing together cultural actors from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, and across Europe. These experiences, combined with additional research on relevant practices, will inform the development of a ‘Culture-Based Dialogue Toolkit’ designed for youth, communities and under-represented groups and shared through regional and international cultural networks.
This project develops a ‘Culture-Based Dialogue Toolkit’ with participatory methods designed for youth, communities, and under-represented groups. It identifies, tests, and adapts existing approaches used in intercultural dialogue and community engagement, combining practice-based experimentation with focused research. The toolkit will document practical methods that help cultural practitioners facilitate dialogue, work with differences and tensions, and create inclusive participatory environments. Several methods will be explored in real participatory settings, particularly during the East Satellite BEYOND event in Istanbul (4–6 May 2026), which brings together artists and cultural practitioners from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, and across Europe. This provides an opportunity to observe how these methods function in cross-border contexts. In addition, one of the methods will be applied in the workshop ‘Where We Stand In-Between: Exploring Grey Zones in Cultural Democracy’ at the Culture Converge 2026 in Lisbon. Insights from these experiences will feed directly into the development of the toolkit, which will be shared through regional and international cultural networks.
