Through the simple question “Why do we need…?” the initiative invites citizens and invited experts to explore themes such as education, humour, inclusion, books, forests, history, reason and democracy. By creating a welcoming space for respectful conversation, the project encourages critical thinking, informed dialogue and stronger community connections, helping people learn to listen, respect different opinions and discuss.
Dobrý Večerek Prajem is a community discussion club initiated by Orava Library in Dolný Kubín, Slovakia. The project started as a social and community experiment: to bring people together in a welcoming environment, share a cup of coffee or tea, and discuss important questions about society in a respectful and open way. Each meeting revolves around a simple but powerful prompt: “Why do we need…?” Through this question, participants explore themes such as education, humour, inclusion, books, forests, history, reason, democracy, theatre, sport or faith. Every discussion invites experts relevant to the topic while encouraging active participation from the audience. The initiative is built on cooperation between Orava Library, the café Bistro Miesto, the bookstore Zrno and other local actors, creating a shared civic space for dialogue in a small town. By connecting culture, conversation and community networks, the project promotes critical thinking, respectful listening and constructive discussion of complex topics.
