Free Belarus Calendar: A Lecture Series on Struggle and Dignity - A series of historical lectures at the Free Belarus Museum in Poland, established by Belarusian political migrants. The lectures explore key dates and events in Belarusian history that are banned or silenced in Belarus today. They aim to preserve historical memory, promote democratic values, and engage the public in discussions on freedom, human rights, and civic participation.
The Free Belarus Museum, founded by Belarusian political migrants in Poland, preserves and promotes Belarus’s authentic history, countering its distortion and silencing by the authoritarian regime. Many key dates related to independence, national dignity, and democratic values are ignored or banned by the Belarusian regime. In response, the museum launches twelve public lectures on historically silenced dates, including Freedom Day (25 March), the Day of Kastus Kalinouski, the Chernobyl Tragedy, the Day of Solidarity with Political Prisoners, and the Day of Independent Belarusian Culture (9 August 2020). Lectures are delivered by Belarusian historians who faced repression and now live in exile, allowing them to continue their work and share knowledge with the public. The project engages the Belarusian diaspora and young people who left after 2020, strengthening their connection to history. Lectures are streamed online, reaching audiences inside Belarus and fostering awareness of national identity, civic consciousness, and respect for historical heroes. The project’s hybrid format amplifies civic engagement and cultural resistance against the current regime.
