Since its founding in 2024 Gantiadi festival has developed a distinctive format as a meeting point for music, art, and political reflection from Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus, and beyond. At a time when artists from these regions are increasingly seeking refuge and creative freedom abroad, Gantiadi provides a space for dialogue, solidarity, and artistic collaboration. Through its combination of film screenings, exhibitions, live music performances, and public discussions, the festival reflects Berlin’s evolving identity as a city shaped by migration, activism, and cultural exchange.
The film section of the Gantiadi Festival will present a curated selection of documentary and fiction films from Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus, and neighbouring regions that address themes such as social justice, political repression, migration, and the experiences of marginalized communities. Amid the rise of authoritarian regimes and entrenched right-wing elites in the region, the vast majority of filmmakers operate under severe political pressure and financial starvation. By presenting their work in Berlin, the festival creates a platform where artistic expression becomes part of a broader dialogue on democracy, transnational solidarity, and the role of culture in resisting oppression. Festival takes place on from 4-6.06.2026 in Neue Zukunft, Berlin. The programme will include film screenings, Q&A sessions with filmmakers, and panel discussions bringing together filmmakers, multimedia artists, cultural researchers, and members of diaspora communities. These conversations will explore the social and political contexts of the films while encouraging dialogue and exchange between artists and audiences.
