Germany
Herkommen is a storytelling project that documents and shares personal migration experiences through filmed interviews and public dialogue formats. The project gives space to voices often underrepresented in public discourse and shows how individual life stories shape democratic societies. Through curated screenings and discussions, it encourages reflection, dialogue and mutual understanding among diverse communities. By connecting personal narratives with collective exchange, Herkommen promotes empathy, participation and awareness of migration as a core part of European identity.
Herkommen is a documentary storytelling project that collects and shares personal life stories connected to migration, identity and belonging. Through filmed interviews, participants reflect on their experiences of arriving, adapting and contributing to life in a new cultural environment. These stories are presented in public screenings and dialogue events that bring together community members, cultural actors and civil society partners. The project creates inclusive spaces where personal narratives become starting points for broader conversations about identity, participation and democratic values. By highlighting diverse perspectives within migrant communities, Herkommen challenges simplified views of migration and strengthens empathy and understanding across society. It contributes to democratic culture by amplifying underrepresented voices, encouraging dialogue across social groups and fostering awareness of migration as a vital part of Europe’s shared story.
