The project “DNA: A House on the Border” is a revival of the Mariupol theater “Terra Incognita” in Kyiv. A team of 16 displaced actors is creating a performance with digital elements based on S. Mrozhek. The project marks the transition from a “theater in suitcases” to a sustainable art center. Goal: psychosocial rehabilitation of IDPs, depolarization and integration into the community through art. We will hold 3 screenings with discussions about the war experience. The use of hybrid formats expands access to culture, affirming theater as a symbol of civil resistance and democratic values.
Reviving Donetsk's first independent theater, disrupted by war and occupation, Terra Incognita is now a "theatre in suitcases," bringing together 16 displaced actors and students in Kyiv. The project envisions a full-fledged return to the cultural scene through the production of a keynote performance: "House on the Border" – a reflection on the loss of home. "Dialogue and Depolarization": The theater unites the Mariupol community, promoting the integration of internally displaced persons through art and understanding shared trauma. "Civic Engagement": The story of the theater and its director, a former prisoner, is a symbol of resistance to tyranny and the defense of democratic values. "Inclusivity": Creating jobs for refugee artists and engaging youth in the preservation of Mariupol's culture. Digital Ethics: Hybrid screening formats and online discussions expand access to democratic content in the digital space. The project transforms the theatre from a victim of circumstances into an active participant in the formation of a sustainable democratic society.
