In Peniche, residents, artists and cultural practitioners will come together in participatory workshops to imagine hopeful futures through storytelling, speculative mapping and collaborative drawing. These collective visions will be translated into artistic expressions, shared in a public exhibition. By transforming imagination into a shared civic practice, the project creates spaces for communities to reflect, connect and actively shape cultural narratives about the future. In times of uncertainty and fragmentation, capacity to imagine together becomes an essential democratic act.
Imaginarium Commons - a participatory cultural initiative inviting communities to reclaim the future as a shared practice, moving from stagnation to collective agency. Workshops and coordination are led by Komuhn, a multidisciplinary team working at the intersection of design, collaboration and what-can-be using participatory methods to support collective imagination and social innovation. Participants explore hopeful futures through storytelling, speculative mapping, collaborative artistic exercises and dialogue, reflecting on present challenges while imagining and prototyping alternatives. Emerging ideas are translated into artworks—e.g. poetry, video, music, performance, drawing, digital media—created with local artists. The project culminates in public exhibition where the collective visions are shared with wider audience. Exhibition visitors are invited to contribute to a wall piece of “messages from the future”, to be donated to the local library. “Collective Future Archive” documents collective visions and methods developed online, providing a practical toolkit for other communities and cultural spaces to adapt and replicate, ensuring that the impact extends beyond Peniche
