Invisible Painting. Art Discussion Series
The project aims to create an equal, user-friendly, multisensory space for both visually impaired and sighted individuals to discuss art, centred around Witkacy's 'Portrait of a Doctor.' Through methods like tactile graphics, audiodescription, tactile elements, and aroma, participants will engage without visual cues. Visually impaired consultants will ensure inclusive design. The initiative also aims to raise awareness of 5 local cultural institution staff about universal design principles.
The project seeks to establish an inclusive and multisensory environment where both visually impaired and sighted individuals can interact and discuss art. Centred around Witkacy’s painting 'Portrait of a Doctor,' participants will engage in discussion without visual cues, utilising touch, smell, taste, and sound.
Through methods like tactile graphics, audiodescription, tactile elements, and aroma, attendees will have equal access to the painting's exploration. Involvement of visually impaired consultants ensures inclusive design. The initiative not only fosters cultural participation for the visually impaired but also educates cultural institution staff on universal design principles.
We will engage local animators from 5 culture centres in our region (selected in open-call) to jointly organise such discussions for their communities, promoting awareness and sensitising for the needs of visually impaired people. Furthermore, the project plans to extend its impact by inviting 5 cultural institutions to adopt similar practices, providing training sessions to enhance inclusivity.
