After Timișoara’s European Capital of Culture year in 2023, artistic activity slowed, while expectations of a vibrant cultural city remained. lorgennale responds by rekindling engagement through a performative arts festival hosted in private apartments. By staging eight performances over one week, the project shifts focus from large institutional formats to intimate, community-based encounters. The scale is human, relational, and participatory. Through this edition, we aim to contribute to a sustainable post-Capital-of-Culture landscape, where artistic experimentation and community engagement.
lorgennale is conceived as a nomadic art festival that unfolds within private domestic interiors across European cities. The previous editions were hosted in Zagreb, Stuttgart, Budapest, Chisinau, Lisbon. For this edition we choose Timisoara, an ex Capital of Culture city. lorgennale develops city-specific festival programs that reflect local cultural and social contexts. In its usual format, lorgennale presents 10 to 12 performances staged in 10-12 homes over the course of ten days. For the proposed edition in Timișoara, we plan to organize 8 events over one week. This slightly condensed format maintains the project’s intensity while adapting to current local capacities and resources. lorgennale aiming to reactivate the public’s appetite for art through proximity, accessibility, and direct encounter. Instead of relying on large institutional infrastructures, the project operates through apartments temporarily transformed into sites of performance and gathering. Open calls for hosts and local artists will be launched by the local partner organizations. Instead of buying a ticket, participants bring an object that symbolizes “home” followed by an exbition.
