This project will conduct a nationwide mapping of digital ethics challenges affecting democratic governance in Nigeria. As political engagement increasingly shifts online, algorithmic content amplification, misinformation, opaque digital political advertising, weak data protection enforcement, and online harassment are shaping public discourse and electoral participation. Yet regulatory frameworks and ethical safeguards have not evolved at the same pace as technological adoption.
The study will combine desk research, stakeholder interviews, and structured data collection across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones to assess how digital platforms influence political participation, civic space, and public trust. It will identify policy gaps in digital governance and examine risks related to algorithmic bias, data privacy, and online manipulation.
The project will produce a comprehensive mapping report, policy brief, and stakeholder dialogue to support evidence-based reforms. By strengthening understanding of digital risks and governance gaps, the initiative will help policymakers, civil society, and technology actors develop ethical, rights-based approaches that safeguard democracy
