Meadow 2.0 is a participatory public art project in the Spinut neighbourhood in Split that brings together local residents, an artist, and a mediator to collaboratively develop an artwork for a neglected green space between residential buildings. Following the New Patrons model, residents act as commissioners, defining the needs and vision for the space. The project demonstrates how artistic processes can strengthen community participation, encourage dialogue, and contribute to the transformation of underused urban spaces into shared community places.
Meadow 2.0 is a participatory art project in the Spinut neighbourhood in Split. There, Culture Hub Croatia has been running their creative hub "Prostor" since 2021, focusing on the link between art and community. The project began when residents approached the organization with the idea of revitalizing neglected green space between residential buildings. One of the ideas was to bring artistic dimension into the area.
In 2023, the initiative joined the New Patrons platform, providing a structured framework for commissioning public art. Through meetings, pilot activities, and a 2025 collective clean-up, a group of residents became the official commissioners. Their vision is to transform the meadow into a welcoming meeting place while preserving the existing natural environment.
In 2025, Italian artist Chiara Gambirasio was invited to join the project. During her residency in Prostor, she developed a concept for the installation in collaboration with the community. Meadow 2.0 showcases how participatory art empowers citizens to reclaim and co-shape their urban environment, turning shared spaces into functional, community-driven landmarks.
