Once Upon a Time: Stories Across Generations (OUTSAG)
ANGA - Verein zur Förderung von Kultur, Bildung und Umwelt
Austria
This project brings grandparents and grandchildren together to share memories through storytelling. Participants turn these memories into short digital stories using simple tools, creating meaningful dialogue between generations. Through OUTSAG they reflect on how digital platforms shape opinions, emotions and public conversations in times of polarisation. The process encourages empathy, critical thinking and respectful communication. The project includes one in person workshop and two online forums where participants reflect on how the learning enriches their daily lives.
OUTSAG is a participatory cultural initiative that brings young people and older community members together to explore democratic dialogue through storytelling and digital media. The project encourages meaningful exchange between generations and strengthens social connections.
Over four weeks participants join a hybrid programme with an online preparation session, a two day in person workshop, and a final reflection meeting. The project introduces media literacy and explores how digital platforms shape opinions and public debate.
During the workshop, youth attend with their grandparents when possible or meet senior residents in story circles. Each participant brings objects representing the past, present, and future and shares the stories behind them. They create a digital outcome which will be presented to a local audience at the end of the workshop.
Participants practice active listening and transform selected memories into short digital stories using simple smartphone tools. Outcomes may include audio stories, letters to the future, and short documentary clips.
