“Satire as Resistance” transforms the legacy of Toti list into a living participatory space that fosters democratic dialogue in polarized societies. Through workshops, moderated debates, interactive exhibitions, and community co-creation, the project connects historical cultural resistance with contemporary challenges—strengthening civic engagement, critical thinking, and inclusive debate. It builds bridges between diverse community voices and reclaims satire as a tool for democratic resilience.
“Satire as Resistance” responds to the democratic challenges of our time by activating the history of Toti list—a satirical anti-war and anti-fascist newspaper—as a foundation for civic dialogue. Toti list was established in 1938. Moving beyond a static exhibition, we establish a living cultural laboratory where community members co-produce content and discuss pressing social and political issues through the lens of satire and humor. Core activities include: Open calls for young creators and community responses to democratic themes. Moderated public discussions bridging different viewpoints. Workshops on understanding satire’s role in public discourse. Interactive participation walls and evolving displays. By engaging diverse groups (youth, students, journalists, activists, local residents), the project aims to strengthen democratic competencies, moderate polarizing debates, and demonstrate how cultural engagement can facilitate constructive dialogue while empowering local communities.
