Self-Framed: Inter/Trans Autofiction Lab is a small-scale artistic laboratory where trans, intersex, and gender diverse (TIGD) participants experiment with autobiographical storytelling through two complementary media: autofiction writing and photographic self-portraiture. Over a six-month process combining workshops and mentoring, participants develop personal narratives into artistic works that explore identity, body, and transformation. It’s relevant because marginalized communities speak about themselves through artistic forms and reclaim the space that was theirs in the first place.
Self-Framed: Inter/Trans Autofiction Lab is a participatory artistic programme that explores how personal experience can serve as a starting point for creative production within the changing landscape of societal norms and politics. The project combines 2 art practices: autofiction writing and photo self-portraiture, allowing participants to approach storytelling both textually and visually.
The programme unfolds over 6 months and is structured in 2 phases. The first phase consists of workshops introducing artistic methods, collective reflection, and peer exchange. Participants explore autobiographical materials and experiment with transforming lived experience into narrative and visual forms.
The second phase focuses on individual mentoring, supporting participants in developing their own artistic works. Through this process, they gain practical tools in writing, visual storytelling, and artistic presentation.
The project concludes with a small public presentation and an online publication documenting the works.
