SPQR addresses the growing threat of disinformation in Europe by empowering young citizens and experts to actively contribute to protecting information integrity, fostering critical thinking and engagement in democratic life. Through the digital platform Buloteca, the project connects citizens with fact-checkers, experts and universities in a collaborative cycle of prebunking, debunking and post-bunking. Through workshops and hands-on activities, SPQR builds practical skills, strengthens citizen participation in fact-checking, and promotes citizen-led responses to disinformation across Europe.
SPQR aims to empower citizens, especially young persons (18-30), to actively and collaboratively participate in grassroots, citizen-driven responses to disinformation by equipping them with innovative technological tools, practical knowledge and capacities, and mobilising communities engaged in the fight for information integrity. The project will scale up a novel, citizen-driven approach to combating disinformation by promoting active collaboration between young citizens and experts. Central to the project is the Buloteca platform, which provides a space where users contribute to solving information questions and disinformation tips.
SPQR integrates the platform into a structured and participatory fact-checking cycle—prebunking, debunking and post-bunking—mobilising 2000+ citizens through collaborative hybrid skills-building and activation events. Through structured workshops and hands-on platform use rolled-out, participants will not only develop the skills to identify, investigate, and counter disinformation but also be provided with the resources to translate these skills into sustainable practice, engaging in real-time collaboration with fact-checkers through the Buloteca.
