Tekstura book club season “Roots and Roads”
Tekstura
Ukraine
The Tekstura Book Club engages locals, IDPs, and new citizens in Ivano-Frankivsk through community discussions in welcoming ‘third spaces.’ This season focuses on Ukrainian writers in exile and authors from national minorities, raising awareness of migration and minority histories while fostering participants’ critical thinking through the reading and moderated analysis of long-format texts. During the meetings, participants learn to remain in dialogue, understand different perspectives, and accept constructive criticism.
Tekstura is a reading promotion platform based in Ivano-Frankivsk, western Ukraine. Founded in 2022 within Teple Misto, it became an independent NGO in 2026, continuing to foster reading culture and public dialogue. We work with diverse age groups, invite Ukrainian authors, and organize residencies for young writers.
Ivano-Frankivsk has hosted many IDPs due to Russia’s war against Ukraine. Our Book Club brings together locals, IDPs, and new citizens through shared readings and discussions, providing a safe space for moderated conversations. Since 2022, five seasons have involved around 150 participants, guided by journalists, writers, or cultural workers to encourage critical thinking and engagement with complex topics.
This season focuses on exile, cultural migration, and Ukraine’s Polish and Jewish heritage, featuring authors such as Bruno Schulz and Joseph Conrad. It includes five offline book club meetings, five online lectures, two field trips, and online access for supporters elsewhere. The program fosters critical thinking, raises awareness of migration and minority histories, and supports the integration of new citizens into the Ivano-Frankivsk community.
