Unlearning Hate: Counter-Narrative Lab empowers 20 young Serbian activists to counter hate speech targeting women, LGBTIQ+, and minorities. By decoding algorithms and mastering content creation, participants create impactful counter-narratives. The project bridges the gap between social activism and digital literacy and equips activists with the powerful tool of impact. Through online preparatory phase, on-site training and video production, the project builds lasting capacity for CSOs, providing practical tools to oppose toxic narratives and foster a safer, more inclusive online community.
The project targets young people who want to consciously build their presence on social media and who are/plan to become active in CSOs as volunteers, activists, or collaborators. The aim of the project is to strengthen the capacity of 20 young activists from Serbia to recognize the mechanisms through which hate speech narratives operate, particularly those targeting the groups most frequently affected in our country: women, members of the LGBTIQ+ community, and national minorities. Participants will also gain a better understanding of how social media algorithms work and learn how to create digital content that promotes positive and neutral counter-narratives. The project will be implemented through a preparatory phase of online meetings and capacity-building sessions, followed by a two-day live online training. In the final phase, participants will work in teams to produce video content and trainers will develop know-how materials that can support the future implementation of workshops. All materials and videos will be disseminated through the websites and social media of Femin Kolektiv and the partner organization Open Educational Vibes.
