Voices Across Borders brings activists from Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, and the DRC to Germany for participatory storytelling events that make climate justice tangible and counter fear-based narratives fueling polarisation. In a time when far-right politics scapegoats migrants and attacks climate action, our project creates spaces of encounter where European audiences hear directly from those most affected by extraction, displacement, and repression. Through dialogue, co-creation, and a digital archive, we transform lived resistance into tools for collective empowerment and democratic renewal.
SoNo Collective, operating under BioDiv e.V., unites climate activists from Africa and Germany. Since 2024, we have delivered workshops across Germany connecting Global South frontline realities to European movement spaces. Voices Across Borders develops this into a participatory cultural programme with three components: Public Storytelling Events (3 cities: Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin): Activists from East Africa share experiences of resisting fossil expansion (EACOP), land grabbing, and mineral extraction. Events combine narrative, music, and facilitated dialogue, connecting stories to audience action. Community Dialogue Lab (3 sessions): Participants co-create cultural responses—poems, videos, campaigns—using participatory theatre and sociocratic methods that model democratic practice. Digital Archive of Resistance: An open-access platform documenting stories, testimonies, and resources for educators, journalists, and activists. The project counters polarisation by replacing fear with encounter, building empathy through authentic voices, and equipping communities with tools for cultural resistance and democratic participation.
