Voices of Resilience: Ukrainian War Letters as Living Archives for Europe
Ukraine Resilience Development Academy
Ukraine
Voices of Resilience brings the personal voices of Ukraine’s war into the European cultural space. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion, civilians—especially mothers and families—have documented their experiences through letters and diaries that capture everyday life during wartime. Building on the book Letters of a Ukrainian Mother, the project will curate and present selected wartime letters through an open-access digital storytelling platform. By highlighting personal testimonies rather than geopolitical analysis, the initiative helps European audiences understand the human dimension of war.
Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine has transformed everyday life into historical testimony. Across the country, civilians are documenting their experiences through letters, diaries, and personal reflections written during the war. These texts form emerging living archives of resilience, capturing how individuals interpret trauma, survival, and solidarity during one of the most dramatic moments in contemporary European history.
Voices of Resilience transforms these narratives into a cultural dialogue for Europe. The project will collect and curate selected wartime letters written by Ukrainian civilians, with particular attention to the voices of mothers, families, and displaced communities documenting everyday life during the war.
Building on the archive initiated in the book Letters of a Ukrainian Mother, the project will present these testimonies through an open-access digital storytelling platform. By highlighting personal voices rather than geopolitical narratives, the initiative helps European audiences better understand the human dimension of war and encourages dialogue on resilience, solidarity, and democratic values.
