Voices of Resistance. Roma Artists at Federal Roma Congress 2026

Bundes Roma Verband e.V.
Germany
Bundes-Roma-Kongress-Konzert-2024
As part of the Federal Roma Congress 2026 in Dortmund, two concerts on 12 and 13 May will conclude each congress day. Roma artists use music as a form of cultural resistance, self-representation and political expression. In the context of rising racism and social polarisation, the project strengthens community visibility, counters marginalisation and creates a shared space for empowerment through culture.
The Congress concerts, held as part of the 2026 Federal Roma Congress (Bundes Roma Kongress) in Dortmund, showcase Roma artists using their music as instruments of empowerment. Taking place at the close of each day of the Congress, the concerts highlight the creativity, resilience, and cultural contributions of Roma communities, offering a platform for artistic expression and public visibility. The concerts are closely linked to the Congress’ themes of community self-representation, political participation, and empowerment strategies. By presenting Roma music in a public setting, the concerts foster dialogue, raise awareness of Roma perspectives, and strengthen cultural recognition. They also provide networking opportunities between artists, activists, and participants from Roma organisations and the genereal public, creating connections that extend beyond the event itself. These performances demonstrate how art can empower individuals, challenge stereotypes, and contribute to social change, making the Congress concerts a vital complement to the educational and political goals of the 2026 Federal Roma Congress.
