It treats civic participation and walking as forms of cultural resistance reclaiming democratic narratives.
It develops a participatory civic format connecting watchdog activists, public and volunteers, dog trainers/owners through co-created guided walk in Bratislava. It responds to civic disengagement by creating accessible spaces for dialogue outside formal debates. Co-creation sessions take place in a library in cooperation with Slovak chapter of Transparency International movement and involve selected volunteers from the BDC. Participants jointly design the content and route of guided walk by conducting research of library sources, sharing stories and experiences about activism, artivism and democratic participation in public space. Trained canisterapy dogs support a calm, inclusive atmosphere and symbolically represent “guardians of democracy” during sessions and walking. The approach combining storytelling, walking and civic reflection contribute to translation of abstract democratic concepts into tangible experiences in public space. The project will produce a tested methodology replicable by socio-cultural centres and civic organisations. Winning the grant would support broader dissemination and engagement with new participants and partners.
